Mikel Arteta has discovered Arsenal's most creative player after Crystal Palace draw

Arsenal's four-game winning run across all competitions came to an end on Thursday night.

Crystal Palace were the visitors to the Emirates Stadium and managed to earn a deserved point - although they could have left with all three had their finishing in the first-half been better.

James Tomkins was denied by the woodwork, while Bernd Leno produced a fine save to keep out Christian Benteke's header that looked destined for the back of the net.

For Arsenal, their performance was a shadow of what they've produced in recent games.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette were starved of any real service in attack, and youngsters Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe weren't able to influence proceedings in north London.

Not even the second-half introduction of Thomas Partey after nine games out could spark the Gunners into life.

And former Arsenal defender Alex Scott has revealed the player Mikel Arteta's side missed the most against the Eagles.

Kieran Tierney wasn't risked due to muscle fatigue and Scott believes the Gunners lost a lot of creativity in the side without the Scotland international marauding down the left.

"We talk about Tierney, how important he is, what he brings to the team, his runs going forward, his runs on the ball and actually making others play around him," Scott said on Sky Sports. "That was totally missed.

"Maitland-Niles was totally off the pace today, you could see that the confidence wasn’t there, but Tierney was missed today."

Tierney has been integral to Arsenal's recent upturn in form. He won a penalty in the 3-1 win over Chelsea, scored and claimed an assist against West Brom and was excellent in the FA Cup third-round win over Newcastle United last weekend.

As pointed out by Scott, Ainsley Maitland-Niles struggled as the left-back and Hector Bellerin admits Tierney was a big loss.

"Yeah, I think so (missed him). We do miss every single player when they’re not on the pitch, but we do have a lot of great players coming back," Bellerin told Sky Sports.

"I think Ainsley did a great job again, such a versatile player.

"But it’s true that Kieran was enjoying very good form and we did miss that probably on the left side, but we have very talented players in many areas that can come in.

"We’re not a team that’s restricted to just one player, we need to find ways to be creative and break other teams, and we need to keep improving on that."
