Mikel Arteta has already made his Reiss Nelson stance clear with Arsenal transfer considered

Reiss Nelson is reportedly eyeing a move away from the Emirates.

The 21-year-old made just nine appearances in all competitions for the Gunners this season with injury problems holding him back.

When fit, Nelson struggled to break into the starting 11 and was omitted from Mikel Arteta’s matchday squad for the club’s last five Premier League fixtures.

Arsenal’s head coach has previously apologised for not giving Nelson enough opportunities in the first team.

With a resurgent Pepe, the breakthrough of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe and Arsenal set to reinforce their squad in the attacking department, Nelson will likely face limited action next season, too.

This has led to speculation regarding his Arsenal future.

According to CBSS Sports, Nelson has ‘plenty of suitors’ in the Bundesliga, most notably Hertha Berlin, while football.london revealed in April that Greek giants Olympiacos are interested in signing him.

Having made 47 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 4 times and registering 4 assists, even a relatively successful stint in the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim was not enough to give Nelson the opportunities he craves.

His best moment last season came in the Europa League, where he netted against Molde in the group stages of the tournament.

The academy graduate will be disappointed to leave the club, but it might be the best-case scenario for both parties.

Nelson’s youth and potential will add to his value. His sale could be an opportunity for Arsenal to raise funds and bolster their transfer budget amidst their current financial strains.

Meanwhile, Nelson will have the chance to play regular football and continue his development, and Arsenal boss Arteta has already made his stance clear on Nelson, admitting last month he would have liked to have played him more.

“With Reiss I would like to give him more," the Arsenal boss said.

“He’s a boy who trains really hard, he wants to do extra all the time but it’s very difficult at the moment with the players that we have to fit him.

“I feel sorry that we don’t have other competitions to use him because he deserves more. If he doesn’t play more it’s my fault.”
