Mikel Arteta has already decided next Arsenal transfers as he brings 'clarity' to plans

Arsenal have already decided on their next two signings in January as Mikel Arteta insists it's clear what they are looking for.

It was a complete overhaul for the north London club in the summer as they entered rebuild mode under the Spaniard.

The Gunners spent £150million as they brought six new players to the club, including Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Ben White, Martin Odegaard, Aaron Ramsdale and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

But football.london claims that Arteta and sporting director Edu have already identified two areas the club wants to strengthen.

Arsenal plan to target a new midfielder and a defender in the upcoming winter window.

It was a slow start to the season as Arsenal struggled to get to grips with their new-look squad. The Gunners were languishing at the bottom of the table after three opening defeats in the Premier League.

But they have responded with three wins on the spin including an impressive 3-1 win over rivals Tottenham as new signings Odegaard, Ramsdale and Tomiyasu continue to flourish.

Arteta wasn't surprised by their disappointing start as he expected there to be bumps in the road, like most transitional periods will have.

But the Arsenal boss reckons they laid the right foundations in the summer and it's clear what they're striving towards in the future.

He told Sky Sports: “Momentum is down to confidence, is down to believing in what you do and really feeling it and trying to embrace it and move on every week, adding something, making sure that the steps are forwards.

“In any project, that’s impossible to happen every single week. Some days you have to go a little bit backwards to go forwards and you have to realise that and don’t lose perspective.

“The changes we made this summer was probably the most significant summer we’ve had since I’ve been here", he told Sky Sports.

“Now you start to get a sense that we’re all on the same page. With any project, you need the right foundations and now we have clarity in what we want to do."

Arsenal will look for their fourth win in a row against Brighton this weekend, but are without Granit Xhaka who will be on the sidelines for three months with a knee injury.

Arteta added: "Obviously it’s really bad news personally for Granit. He’s a strong man he will use this time to focus on other things and I’m sure he will be back in the right place when he’s back. He will be missed but other players have to step in.

"He probably escaped an even worse injury because that action for a cruciate injury is a tricky one. Hopefully, he can escape surgery as well."
