With the transfer window in full swing, clubs are working hard to strengthen their squad ahead of the return of Premier League football.
And it is no different at Arsenal. Mikel Arteta has already bought one new face to the club this summer as Willian signed a three-year contract after the expiry of his deal at Chelsea at the end of the 2019/20 season.
The Gunners are also on the verge of completing a £25 million deal for Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes, beating off competition from the likes of Napoli and Manchester United.
Arsenal have also been linked with the likes of Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar as they look to add more faces before the start of the season on September 12th.
It is the first summer transfer window that Mikel Arteta has had as a manager, but the former Man City assistant has a clear vision for the sort of players that he wants to bring to the Emirates Stadium.
“For City, or any top side, it’s obviously great to have players who’ll bring you control of the ball, control of matches,” he told the Athletic back in December.
“But in the Premier League, it’s vital to have guys who’ll offer massive amounts of intensity and athletic aggression in key one-v-one moments.
“If you don’t have that, then, for however much you construct intricate interior play, the big beasts of the Premier League will eventually press you and rob the ball from you.”
The comments may give Arsenal fans a hint as to the sort of player that Arteta is looking for during the transfer window.
The signing of Willian and the interest in ball-winner Thomas Partey is an indication that the Arsenal boss is maintaining the stance on transfers coming into the Emirates Stadium this summer.
