Isco's best position has been explained to Mikel Arteta amid speculation of a loan move to Arsenal.
The January transfer window opens later this week, and the mission for the Gunners is to sign a creative midfielder - as revealed by technical director Edu earlier in the month.
But could Isco be the one to fill the void?
Well, according to reports, Arsenal's interest in the playmaker is genuine but any deal bringing the Spaniard to north London would be a half-season loan and Real Madrid would have to pay a percentage of his wage.
And if Arsenal are successful in their efforts to sign the 28-year-old, Arteta has already been told how he could get the best from the Spain international.
"When I say Zidane put him in the number 10 role, I was excited and though that he was going to stand out," José Enrique García, Isco's first manager, said in an interview with AS last year.
"A lot of times, managers put him on the wing and he has done well there but there is evidence to say that where he makes the difference does magical things is in the number 10 position.
"It doesn't surprise me at all what is happening.
"The best Isco plays with the ball. I remember when he was six and I said to him that if you lose a game but win possession, you have actually won, kicking the ball up the field is detrimental because at that age, it's all about learning.
"We knew that when Isco didn't touch the ball much, we knew that we had a big chance of losing."
The admission that Isco's best role is as a number 10, gives Arteta the potential to field the Spaniard in an extremely attacking line-up during the second half of the season alongside Bukayo Saka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - if the Gunners can get a loan deal over the line.
Emile Smith Rowe has been given his chance behind the striker against Chelsea and Brighton, so would be most at risk of losing his place in the side.
With Isco able to operate centrally, Arteta could use Saka and Gabriel Martinelli out wide, with Aubameyang through the middle.
This would allow Isco to play in his favoured attacking midfield role where he could create chances for the aforementioned trio and make Arsenal more of a threat in the final third.
Alternatively, Isco could be used from the left which would get him and Smith Rowe in the same team.
