Mikel Arteta handed Emile Smith Rowe injury boost ahead of Arsenal's clash with Burnley

Mikel Arteta has provided an update on the injury to Emile Smith Rowe.

The 20-year-old started Arsenal's 3-1 victory away to Leicester and had been having a good game before he had to limp off just after after the Gunners had equalised, having gone behind early on to the hosts.

He was replaced by Martin Odegaard, who had a big influence on Nicolas Pepe's second half goal at the King Power Stadium.

But after the match Arteta was still worried over the fitness of Smith Rowe after he had had to come off early.

"Yeah, I am concerned because for Emile to come out and say I cannot continue playing it should be something," he said when asked about the severity of the problem in his post match press conference.

"It was something related to his hip. But yeah he was in a good place after the game."

Smith Rowe previously missed almost a year of football after sustaining a hip injury just before his loan move to RB Leipzig in 2019.

But speaking ahead of his side's trip to Burnley in the Premier League this Saturday the Gunners boss was more positive about the outlook for the injury.

"Emile has a scan yesterday," said Arteta.

"It doesn’t look a significant injury. But he was in discomfort."

It is not known yet whether Smith Rowe is expected to miss the trip to Turf Moor as a result of the injury or if he will be back in time for the Gunners Europa League tie against Olympiacos next Thursday.

Arteta was also positive about injury news surrounding other members of the squad.

"For the rest hopefully everybody will be ok," he said.

This is particularly encouraging given that key players Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney have only just made their returns from significant lay-offs.

Tierney was out for over a month with a knee problem, while Partey missed two weeks with another thigh strain, but both are expected to be available for Saturday's match.
