Mikel Arteta handed Arsenal injury boost as two players training ahead of Liverpool

Arsenal have been handed a double fitness boost ahead of their clash against Liverpool this weekend.

The Gunners travel to Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday to face the Reds in what is both teams' first game back after the international break.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will be without a number of key players for the clash against Arsenal, having been forced to deal with yet more injury problems.

Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, James Milner, Roberto Firmino, Joe Gomez and Harvey Elliott are all ruled out, while Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson are still being assessed.

For Arsenal, they had two fitness concerns going into the game against Liverpool.

Thomas Partey was a doubt having been forced to miss Ghana’s matches over the international break.

Plus, club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was also a doubt having returned early from international duty with Gabon.

Manager Mikel Arteta said in his pre-match press conference that the pair would still need to be assessed before being considered for selection against Liverpool.

“He couldn’t play for the national team,”Arteta said of Partey in his press conference on Friday.

“He really tried to do that and pushed for that one but wasn’t enough.

“Again that’s something we have to assess because until today he hasn’t done enough.’

When asked about Aubameyang coming back from Gabon duty early, Arteta said: “No, it wasn’t pre-planned.

“‘We have to assess him and see how he is and make decisions.

“We have a lot of players who have been through different game issues. Little injuries.”

However, the latest round of training pictures from Arsenal show both Partey and Aubameyang involved with the rest of the first-team squad.

Football.London also report that the duo are expected to be included in the team to face Liverpool on Saturday.
