Mikel Arteta hails Arsenal star who is "example" to teammates after Leicester win

Mikel Arteta has hailed Granit Xhaka as an "example" to his Arsenal team-mates after their win at Leicester.

The Gunners managed to beat the high-flying Foxes at the King Power to climb into the top half.

Goals from David Luiz, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe saw Arteta's side come from behind to secure the three points.

Xhaka, who has been a regular under the Spaniard, was hailed for his work rate and attitude following his role in the win.

"You have to put an example on the pitch of character and going for every single ball with that determination," said Arteta.

"Probably he's played more minutes than anyone on the pitch but he keeps going even when he's so tired and tries to help the team in the right way.

"And the same with David, for someone like him at his age to play again it was tough but he showed real attitude.

"He wanted to play and that's the best way to approach every game."

It rounds off what has been an impressive few days for the north London outfit.

They came back from the brink to see off Benfica and progress in the Europa League on Thursday night.

But their win at Leicester, who had only lost one of their last 12, came as a shock to many.

Arteta was quizzed on whether he thought it was Arsenal's best display of the season, to which he replied:"I don't know but I'm certainly happy with the performance of the team and again the character and composure that we showed.

"Coming here after a very short turnaround from Benfica and going down very early puts the game in a really difficult position against a Leicester team.

""We had some really good moments in the game, we looked really solid, we dominated the game and I think overall we deserved the win."
