Mikel Arteta gives updates on Cedric and Shkodran Mustafi ahead of Arsenal's clash with Man City

Mikel Arteta admits Cedric Soares and Shkodran Mustafi could come into contention to feature for Arsenal against Manchester City this week.

The Gunners head to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City on Wednesday night, with Arsenal looking to make it four wins in a row in the Premier League as they continue a late push towards the top four.

Arsenal boosted their chances of chasing down their rivals for a top four spot with a 1-0 win against West Ham United on Saturday, with Alexandre Lacazette netting the only goal of the game at the Emirates Stadium.

That moved Arsenal up to ninth and within one point of north London rivals Tottenham in eighth, and eight behind Chelsea with a game in hand.

That game is against City on Wednesday, and Arteta could be set for a double boost ahead of the game, with the Gunners' head coach confirming that Cedric and Mustafi were both close to returning.

"I think they will be available to play," he said, speaking at his pre-match press conference.

"Hopefully, everybody will be available. We train tomorrow and we will pick the squad with the best players that we can."

Cedric has not yet featured for Arsenal since joining on loan from Southampton in January, with the Portuguese full-back being sidelined with a hamstring injury in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Mustafi missed the game against West Ham on Saturday after picking up a thigh issue in training.

Centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos has played the last two games at right-back, although Hector Bellerin came off the bench in the closing stages of the game against West Ham at the weekend.
