Mikel Arteta explains why Mesut Ozil's transfer to Fenerbahce is delayed

Mesut Ozil will complete his move to Fenerbahce soon but Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admits that the final step is "the longest ever" due to coronavirus restrictions.

Ozil has not played for Arsenal since March due to what Mikel Arteta says are 'footballing reasons', but the club finally reached an agreement to terminate his contract last week with the midfielder now in Istanbul putting the finishing touches to his move to the Turkish side.

"Yeah, but the quarantine situation is making that final step the longest ever," said Arteta.

"They have a lot of restrictions there are things that have to be done before announcing everything.

"I think everything seems to be going ok, but I cannot say definitely what’s going to happen. So as soon as we can don’t worry we will mention it."

He made 184 league appearances for the Gunners during his time at the club, scoring 33 times having arrived from Real Madrid for a then-record £42.5million transfer fee.
