Mikel Arteta explains what will get Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring again

Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang could be used in a central role during Arsenal's upcoming games, according to Gunners manager Mikel Arteta.

The Gabon striker spent much of last season playing on the left wing from where he scored many of his 23 league goals, but supporters have been calling out to see the 29-year-old start through the middle.

Alex Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah and Willian have all been utilised as central options, with Arteta hinting that Aubameyang will be used there depending on who the opposition is.

"Yes that's a very possible thing," Arteta said.

"It will depend on the games, it will depend on who he’s surrounded with. I think it’s very important to see who is around him and why we’re doing it.

"Not just the fact we’re doing it, why we’re doing that and what we’re going to get by doing these positive things. Of course, there’s a very strong possibility to play him as a [number] 9.”

Aubameyang, who has been Arsenal's top scorer for two consecutive seasons, had struggled for goals in the opening part of the season but Arteta insists that it is only a matter of time before he starts firing on all cylinders again.

"If you're asking me about any other player I'd say we have to do some work with his confidence, with Auba I don't think it's a case of that.

"From our side we need to give him more opportunities, more shots, put him in better positions, try to accumulate more players around him to create better situations for him. He needs to step in as well when he has the right opportunity.

"These games playing against [teams who play with] the low block you need to make it happen like he did a week ago in the Europa League."
