Mikel Arteta explains how Emile Smith Rowe could feature against Burnley

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has praised Emile Smith Rowe for his performance against Dundalk on Thursday.

The England youngster created the most chances in the Europa League match and completely the majority of his passes in the final third.

Arteta's side have been bereft of creativity in the final third this season and Smith Rowe has been touted as one player who could fill the void after he recently recovered from his injury problems.

"Yeah he hasn’t played many games he played in a position that doesn’t suit him perfectly for his qualities, but you can see that every time he is around the ball that something is gonna happen," said Arteta after the 4-2 win.

"He has a lot of creativity he’s a player that has a lot of quality to receive the ball and do things in areas where the high value spaces after gets open. He’s a threat and I'm really happy with his performance."

Asked if Smith Rowe has a chance to feature against Burnley, the Spaniard replied "it's a chance for everybody", as a number of first team players are expected to return for Sunday's Premier League clash.

"Obviously we have a large squad and we have a lot of players back from injury so we will have the opportunity to pick who is better in the moment to still rotate some players, but that gives us more options in the Premier League as well to focus there and to get the results that we need."

Having lost five out of their last eight games, Arteta knows that victory is crucial on Sunday ahead of a crunch December fixture list which includes matches against Southampton, Everton and Chelsea.

"We need to do that at the end of the day we need to start winning football matches immediately we cannot sustain the results we had in the last six to eight weeks and that has to be immediately and we know that has to start on Sunday."
