Mikel Arteta says he is "hopeful" that the Premier League will overturn the red card shown to David Luiz against Wolves.
The Arsenal defender was shown red in the 2-1 defeat at Molineux on Tuesday after being judged to have fouled Willian Jose in the penalty area.
Referee Craig Pawson awarded a penalty to Wolves before sending off Luiz despite not reviewing the incident himself on the pitchside monitor.
"I'm very hopeful, that's why we put the appeal on," said Arteta.
"We went through all the images and we think the red card should be overruled. That's why we appealed.
"I don't know how long it will take but hopefully today we will hopefully have more information."
Arteta referenced an incident in Arsenal's recent Premier League match against Manchester United which didn't see Luiz punished for what he felt was a "similar" situation.
The Spaniard also believes it is harsh to single out Luiz for criticism after receiving his third red card for the Gunners since joining from Chelsea in the summer of 2019.
"We know the law," he said.
"For me it's more about the decision and what happens in that instance.
"There was a very similar instance against Manchester United where David was on the side of the player which completely changes the angle, the purpose and the player's ability to finish the action. I think they will look at it.
"If you look at the two images I think we can have a long debate here. Just to put the finger on David in my opinion is not fair."
Meanwhile, Arteta confirmed that Arsenal could field Alex Runarsson in goal against Aston Villa on Saturday with Mat Ryan facing a race against time to be fit for the match at Villa Park.
