Mikel Arteta enjoys "good vibes" as Martin Keown's Arsenal prediction becomes realistic

Arsenal's Champions League hopes and Mikel Arteta's future of the club appeared to be in tatters at the end of August.

The Gunners started their Premier League campaign with three consecutive defeats to Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City - but haven't lost since that dreaded month.

Arteta's young side have been in sensational form of late, beating the likes of Tottenham, Leicester and Aston Villa.

They've also reached the quarter-finals of the League Cup, where they'll face League One Sunderland, and have a great chance of winning the tournament after Man City's surprise exit.

The Gunners are now up to fifth in the Premier League - just two points behind Liverpool - and could end up doing something special this term.

Arsenal's most recent victory was against Watford on Saturday, with emerging talent Emile Smith Rowe getting the only goal of the game.

Arteta was delighted to get the three points as it ensures his team maintain their positive momentum heading into the international break.

Speaking to the club's website, he said: "Winning before the international break is always great. It keeps the momentum going, the atmosphere good with the players that have to be here - good vibes.

"And for the players who have to go on internationals, we have to try and plan things and know what we have to do there."

Several first team players have been called up by their respective countries, including Bukayo Saka, Aaron Ramsdale, Kieran Tierney and Martin Odegaard.

Arteta will be hoping his international stars stay injury free as the next few weeks are likely to determine their expectations this term.

Arsenal's next six Premier League fixtures are against Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester United, Everton, Southampton and West Ham.

Victory against Jurgen Klopp's relentless side or David Moyes' high-flying Hammers would surely give the Gunners confidence of mounting a top four challenge.

And Arsenal legend Martin Keown, who was part of the club's last title-winning side 18 years ago, certainly has faith in Arteta's players.

Speaking exclusively to Mirror Football earlier this month, he said: "I think the win against Leicester was a statement victory. When you go there and you do that to Leicester, you've climbed another major hurdle in your development.

"That's all it is at the minute, just a team developing but going in the right direction. They've done really well to turn it around after losing the first three games of the season.

How do you rate Mikel Arteta's time at Arsenal? Have your say!

"It was about the manager identifying after that first international break, these are the personnel that I can rely on... The top four is [now] up for grabs.

"They definitely need to get back into Europe. Fourth or fifth position is a really realistic goal for Arsenal this season."

Right now, the vibes are certainly good for Arsenal and their young manager. And, if they stay that way, a return to Europe's elite could be on the cards.
