Mikel Arteta drops Eddie Nketiah hint over Arsenal's plans against Chelsea

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has dropped a hint at who might be starting against Chelsea.

The Gunners are in action on Tuesday evening against Frank Lampard's side at Stamford Bridge, looking to try and bridge the gap to the top four.

The Gunners haven't had the best start to Arteta's reign at the Emirates Stadium, with just one win in his five games in charge in the Premier League.

Chelsea are similarly struggling, with two wins and two defeats in their last five games. The Blues have struggled to make the most of the other teams around them dropping points, with a defeat away to Newcastle on Saturday.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang serving the second of his three-match suspension for a red card picked up at Crystal Palace and Alexandre Lacazette struggling for form, there are opportunities opening up - and Arteta has dropped a hint about his starting line up.

And Eddie Nketiah could be the one to grasp the chance. The young striker recently returned from a loan spell with Leeds United, where he struggled to feature under Marcelo Bielsa.

But after watching him in training, Arteta opted against sending Nketiah on another short-term deal, and told reporters that he could feature from the start at Stamford Bridge.

"Every player has a chance to start," Arteta stated.

"[Nketiah] is in the squad. We will assess who is in best conditions to play in who is training well and we'll make the decision based on that."

The Gunners currently sit 10th in the Premier League, 10 points behind Lampard's side with 15 matches remaining in the league calendar, with a win needed to keep alive any hopes of reaching the top four this season,
