Mikel Arteta 'did not speak to Arsenal players' following Burnley defeat

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is said to have been left so frustrated by his side's defeat to Burnley last weekend that he did not speak to the players after the game.

The Gunners slumped to the 1-0 loss to the Clarets at the Emirates in what was their fourth consecutive home loss in the Premier League, and it saw the pressure on Arteta's position ramped up even more.

They did slightly better on Wednesday, managing a 1-1 draw against Southampton despite centre-back Gabriel's second half red card.

But they remain in crisis and are still languishing down in 15th position in the table going into the weekend's trip to face Everton.

The result against Burnley was arguably the most disappointing one of the whole season, however, and according to The Athletic Arteta was so furious with the performance from his players that he did not give a team talk following the full-time whistle.

Instead, he waited until the next day at training to launch an inquest and hold a meeting with his squad to discuss exactly where things were going wrong.

The same publication also claims that there are rumblings of discontent at some of Arteta's methods within the dressing room.

One of the biggest gripes of some is how certain players are perceived to be treated differently to others by the Spaniard.

They claim one clear example of this is when summer signing Willian was permitted to start the game against Leeds United last month despite only days before taking an unauthorised trip to Dubai.

The feeling among some members of the squad is that certain players would have been punished or left out of the starting line-up if they did something similar, and they believed it was unfair that Willian was not reprimanded.

Nevertheless, Arteta is believed to still have the full backing of the board, and he is likely to be given time to try to turn around the dreadful recent form.
