Mikel Arteta delivers Pablo Mari update ahead of Arsenal debut

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has not ruled out that Pablo Mari could feature for the first time for the Gunners in their Europa League clash with Olympiacos.

The Gunners are in Greece to take on Olympiacos in the last 32 of the competition, with the first leg in Athens before the second leg at the Emirates Stadium next week.

Mari is yet to appear for the first team since joining the Gunners on loan from Brazilian side Flamengo in January, but Arsenal confirmed earlier today that he is available for selection.

And Arteta has suggested that Mari could be involved soon for the Gunners, after coming through his first action in an Arsenal shirt as he featured with the U23 side in a Premier League 2 clash against Chelsea earlier this week.

That is despite Arteta not being present at the Premier League 2 clash earlier this week, although other members of his coaching staff were, including Albert Stuivenberg.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, he said: “I could not be there for a personal reason. I was pleased they were there.

"His (Mari) commitment has been really good. He did well the other day and hopefully soon we can start to use him.”
