Mikel Arteta delivers honest verdict on Ralf Rangnick ahead of Manchester United vs Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has hailed Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick as a top-quality coach.

United announced on Monday that Rangnick would be taking over as head coach until the end of the season, succeeding Olle Gunnar Solskjaer who was sacked last month following a run of games that saw his side win just one of their last seven Premier League outings.

However, the experienced German coach will have to watch from the sidelines on Thursday night as the Gunners travel to Old Trafford to face the Red Devils - who will be led out by Michael Carrick as Rangnick finalises his work visa.

Now, Arteta has hailed the former RB Leipzig boss and his influence on the game, with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel of Chelsea making it no secret of their admiration for the 63-year-old's tactics.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Spaniard said: "Well he’s one of the top coaches in every involvement he’s had in the game.

"Not only in coaching he’s made some radical changes in some areas. He’s a really interesting appointment in the footballing world, and a really interesting appointment for the club."

Arteta boasts an impressive managerial record against the Red Devils, avoiding defeat in each of his three encounters against the aforementioned Solskjaer.

When asked about his previous results against United, the former Manchester City assistant coach said: "Well the confidence is that we’re gonna prepare the matches to win.

"We have to respect the opponent that we’re gonna have in front of us, but at the end go with the mindset, the confidence and the desire to have that belief."
