Mikel Arteta delivers Arsenal's injury news ahead of West Ham including a defensive boost

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed the Gunners will be without Lucas Torreira and Sead Kolanisac for the visit of West Ham to the Emirates this weekend.

Torreira suffered a fractured ankle during the Gunners FA Cup win over Portsmouth in midweek while left back Kolasinac is expected to be out until the end of March with a significant strain to his right shoulder.

However, Arteta has been boosted by the news that Kieran Tierney has returned to full training and is contention for a return against the Hammers. Bukayo Saka has been playing at left back in recent weeks and impressing for Arteta's side.

On Tierney's potential return, Arteta told the media at his pre-match press conference ahead of the game: "He’s done two or three complete sessions.

"Hopefully he will join the squad soon.

"It doesn't just happen to us [injuries], unfortunately it happens to many teams so we cannot be crying about that. Sometimes it's bad luck, sometimes it's part of the game we play and sometimes things we can avoid and do better as well from coaches or fitness coaches but it is what it is."

The Gunners will be without long-term injury victims Callum Chambers and Cedric Soares for the game on Saturday afternoon. For the Hammers, they could welcome back Andriy Yarmolenko to their 18 for the game.

The Ukrainian international has been out of action for the last three months with a thigh injury but has returned to light training and also took part in a behind-closed-doors match against Tottenham last week.

Ryan Fredericks and Tomas Soucek will both miss the game through shoulder and hip flexor injuries respectively, while Jack Wilshere misses out on a return to his former club as he is recovering from hernia surgery.
