Mikel Arteta: Defiant Arsenal manager insists he still has faith in his ability to do job after European exit

Mikel Arteta insists he still has faith in his own ability and believes he should be managing Arsenal.

The Spaniard is under pressure after Arsenal were knocked out of the Europa League semi-finals by Villarreal on Thursday after a 0-0 draw at Emirates Stadium.

It means Arsenal are facing the prospect of playing no European football next season for the first time since the 1995-96 campaign.

The Gunners are currently ninth in the Premier League and they are out of both domestic cup competitions.

But asked if he still has faith in his own ability to do the job at Arsenal, Arteta said: “Yes.”

Arteta was in defiant mood during his press conference, with his answers short and sharp.
“I think everybody’s job is under scrutiny,” he said, when asked about his own security.

Asked how he would pick the players up after this loss to Unai Emery’s Villarreal, he said: “I wouldn’t be sitting here if I didn’t [think I could]. You will see it. It is not about talking, it is about showing it on the pitch.”
