Mikel Arteta defends unusual Arsenal training ground move ahead of Liverpool clash

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has defended his training methods in preparation for Liverpool that were shown in the 'All or Nothing' Amazon Prime documentary as the Spaniard describes Anfield as a "jungle".

In the eight-part production, during one of the episodes, the Gunners head coach can be seen wheeling speakers out on the Colney training ground as puts his players through their paces with Reds anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone' playing - which ultimately backfired. The 41-year-old hasn't shied away from talking up the atmosphere in L4.

Going into Sunday's encounter with Liverpool, the north London side are winless in their last eight vists to Anfield. The previous clash there ended in a 4-0 victory for Jurgen Klopp's side.

"It depends," Arteta said when asked if he had amplified the issue of Anfield's fortress reputation.

"If you want to isolate only a context that is about an atmosphere you’re going to live in, then they should not shoot on goal. Because if they have to shoot on goal on Sunday, don’t shoot on goal on Thursday just in case you miss.

"You have to prepare the players, you have to tell them what they’re going to be facing and you have to recognise that. And an error and a mistake comes after an opportunity to do that and develop yourself.

"You have to expose yourself, you cannot train the players in the zoo and then go to the jungle on Sunday. It’s impossible."

Both sides have differing ambitions going into Sunday's fixture as Arsenal are looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League, while Liverpool tread unfamiliar waters as they battle for European qualification ahead of next season.
