Mikel Arteta confirms new Arsenal contract for Bukayo Saka is in the works

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta says the club are in talks with Bukayo Saka over a new deal for the teenager.

Saka has shot to fame this season and the 18-year-old has been one of the Gunners’ best players in recent months.

Naturally a winger, Saka has filled in at full-back this term and his performances have attracted attention from a host of clubs.

The teenager, however, has under 18 months to run on his current contract and it has sparked fears he could leave.

Arteta has now revealed, though, that Arsenal are in talks over fresh terms for Saka and they hope to tie him down to a new deal.

“The club is doing what it has to do and they are holding conversations,” said Arteta. “Hopefully it will get resolved.”

Saka is likely to start at Manchester City on Wednesday, with Kieran Tierney yet to play since returning to full training following a dislocated shoulder injury picked up in December.
