Mikel Arteta confirms major injury blow as Edu handed encouraging double transfer boost

Here is your Arsenal morning digest for Thursday, October 29.

David Luiz a big doubt for Manchester United clash

David Luiz will play no part in tonight’s match against Dundalk, Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed.

The 33-year-old suffered an injury in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Leicester City and faces a race to make it back in time for Sunday’s trip to face Manchester United.

Shkodran Mustafi came on in place of Luiz and is expected to deputise at Old Trafford.

"David is still having some discomfort in that area," Arteta said.

"To play Dundalk there is no chance and it's a big doubt for him to play at the weekend.

"Musti's completely fit to play and obviously the internal contract situations are going to be discussed internally.”

This is what the Gunners boss said in full.

Crystal Palace team-mate hints at Wilfried Zaha move

Arsenal-linked forward Wilfried Zaha could move away from Crystal Palace if he scored 15-20 Premier League goals this season, according to Andros Townsend.

The former Tottenham winger was speaking about his Eagles team-mate in a new interview with talkSPORT.

Zaha, 27, has scored five goals in six appearances so far this season and has reportedly made clear his wish to play at a higher level. He was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates last summer, before Arsenal instead moved for Nicolas Pepe.

"There are others we can play (instead of Zaha), which is allowing him to get on the ball and get 1 v 1, 1 v 3 or 1 v 4,” Townsend said.

“And this season, he is flourishing. Long may it continue for us. If he does get 15 to 20 goals, like he is on course for, I am sure he will get his move."

Celtic star hints at future exit amid Arsenal links

Reported Arsenal transfer target Odsonne Edouard has admitted he’s keen to play at a higher level, having impressed at perennial Scottish champions Celtic.

The 22-year-old striker finished top scorer in the Scottish Premiership as Celtic won their ninth straight title, with 22 league goals in 27 appearances.

He was strongly tipped with a move away in the summer, but remained at the Old Firm club, who currently sit six points behind Rangers in Scottish top flight.

“I’ve been here for three years and, for sure, when the time comes I’ll think about leaving and look for a higher league,” the forward told Telefoot (via Daily Record).

“Right now I’m focused on this season and, when the right time comes, I’ll make the decision to go. Honestly, I haven’t really thought about (which country I will move to). I don’t know what the future holds.”
