Mikel Arteta confirms Arsenal transfers "might happen" in deadline day update

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has not ruled out the club doing some late business on transfer deadline day.

The January window closes at 11pm on Monday evening, and is the last chance for Premier League clubs to do some business before the summer.

The Gunners have already been busy this month, signing Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid and Mat Ryan from Brighton on loans until the end of the season.

And there have also been a number of outgoings, with Mesut Ozil joining Fenerbahce, Sead Kolasinac and William Saliba making loan moves to Schalke and Nice respectively and Sokratis joining Olympiacos on a free transfer.

Arsenal are still being linked with a new left-back, with the likes of Crystal Palace's Patrick van Aanholt among those mentioned.

And speaking in a press conference ahead of his side's game against Wolves on Tuesday, Arteta admitted there is a chance there could yet be at least one more addition to his squad.

He said: "The last day of the transfer window is always unpredictable, so things can happen & they might happen, they might not happen. We are on it.

"It is what it is, at least when you know what you want to do, what you want to achieve, it is easier. Hopefully we won’t have any bad surprises and we can control what we want to do."

Ainsley Maitland-Niles could reportedly leave on loan in the coming hours, with Leicester, Southampton and West Brom among the prospective destinations touted.

But Arteta refused to get drawn on the rumours, adding: "I don't know, I cannot speak about any individual players.

"We know what we want to do, the conversations we've had which are for various reasons and let's see if we can get something done tonight."
