Mikel Arteta confirms Arsenal have signed coach from Man City

Mikel Arteta has explained why he has appointed a former Manchester City coach at Arsenal.

Nicholas Jover has left the City Football Academy to reunite with Arteta at Arsenal, after they met at City in 2019.

Jover spent two years at City, working on set pieces following a spell at Brentford. He now joins Arsenal to replace outgoing first-team coach Andreas Georgson.

Explaining why he looked to his old City colleague to replace Georgson, Arteta told the Arsenal website : "Yeah we had a situation in the summer with Andreas, where he had the possibility to leave to his country. He had different reasons to do that and I understood that situation, so we needed to recruit somebody.

"After looking through what the best solution would be, a person that I know was on the market, was available, is someone whose expertise are incredibly useful and valuable for us.

"He's joining us. His name is Nicolas Jover and I've worked with him before at City."

With Jover departing, City have already promoted under-18s coach Carlos Vicens to the first team coaching staff to join existing senior coaches Rodolfo Borrell, Juanma Lillo, and the rest of the staff that make up Guardiola's support system at the club.

Brian Kidd has retired, while there are also movement at academy level. Ben Wilkinson will step up from the Under-16s to replace Vicens in the under-18s, while City are still in the process of appointing a successor to under-23 coach Enzo Maresca, who left to take the first team head coach job at Parma.
