Mikel Arteta can soon unleash Alexandre Lacazette's perfect replacement to save Arsenal millions

Arsenal wonderkid Gabriel Martinelli has been compared to former Real Madrid and Brazil striker Ronaldo.

The 19-year-old burst on the scene last season following his £6m move from Ituano in the 2019 summer transfer window, netting 10 goals across all competitions - including goals away at Liverpool and Chelsea.

Martinelli's debut campaign in English football ended prematurely because of a knee injury that required surgery back in July and is yet to feature under Mikel Arteta so far this term.

With that said, the teenager is on course to make his return before the end of the year and former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell is excited to see Martinellu back in action.

"I think Martinelli is the one, I really do," Campbell told Football Insider. "Martinelli was sensational when he came in last season.

"He is a real handful – strong, direct and reminds me of the Brazilian Ronaldo.

"The way that he picks up the ball and runs at goal is phenomenal.

"I am not saying that he is Ronaldo but he reminds me of him, especially with that goal he scored at Chelsea.

"Big future but I do not want to put too much pressure on him because he suffered that injury and he needs time to come back and get his feet under the table again, get comfortable and play games.

"Players tend to get long-term injuries and then come back and pick a niggle up somewhere else.

"He will need time to get back into the swing of things."

If Martinelli can emulate what Ronaldo did at club level for the likes of Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Barcelona as well as Brazil at the 2002 World Cup then the Gunners already have the perfect replacement for Alexandre Lacazette.

The Frenchman often plays through the middle - with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out wide - but hasn't quite shown he's capable of being the prolific goalscorer Mikel Arteta desperately needs.

football.london revealed in September that Red Bull Salzburg's Patson Daka and Celtic Odsonne Edouard are on Arsenal's radar, but in Martinelli, they could save millions.
