Mikel Arteta can follow Thomas Tuchel's successful Chelsea plan to make £27m Arsenal star shine

Chelsea's recent success is due to the defensive blueprint that Arsenal could follow after a successful summer transfer window.

The Blues signed Thiago Silva on a free transfer at the start of the 2020/2021 season, which the London club have benefited from, and none more so than young centre-back Trevoh Chalobah.

Arsenal had an excellent transfer window at the start of this season, which saw the incoming of 23-year-old centre-back Ben White and another young goalkeeper in Aaron Ramsdale.

William Saliba is also due to re-join the club next season when his loan spell at Marseille is over, and Arsenal could make a signing similar to Thiago Silva to help the youngsters develop.

Before the defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, Arsenal had gone on a 10-match unbeaten run whilst keeping seven clean sheets in the process.

The defence looked impenetrable in some of the games during the unbeaten run and that was due to the success of the centre-back pairing in Gabriel Magalhaes and White, who are both under the age of 24.

However, in the 4-0 defeat to Liverpool, the side lacked that experience in defence, which would have helped the team keep their composure and not be impacted by the atmosphere.

It is certainly an avenue Arsenal could look to explore at the end of the season, especially with Saliba returning, who is another young promising defender on the club’s books.

Thomas Tuchel has handled the mixture of youth and experience in defence perfectly this season, which has been a major factor in Chalobah’s breakthrough.

Since becoming a regular under Tuchel, the young defender and Silva have been a part of a defence that has only conceded one goal in the Champions League so far in this campaign, and only conceded one goal from open play away from home in the Premier League.

Arsenal already have their own centre-backs with excellent potential and the incoming of an experienced defender, who won’t necessarily need to play every week, could prove pivotal for the development of these young players.
