Arsenal's return to Premier League action has not gone smoothly.
Back-to-back defeats at the hands of Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion has severely dented their hopes of sealing a return to the Champions League for next season.
Furthermore, the Gunners have been rocked by a number of injury blows since the restart.
With Calum Chambers already being ruled out for the campaign, he has since been joined in the treatment room by Granit Xhaka, Sokratis, Bernd Leno and Pablo Mari.
Two of which are in contention to face Southampton at St Mary's on Thursday evening, but Leno will be unavailable which means head coach Mikel Arteta has had to assess different options in training.
Amongst those to have participated in the final training session before facing the Saints were first-team stars such as Alexandre Lacazette, Mesut Ozil, Matteo Guendouzi and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
But Leno's setback has brought about a fresh opportunity for one of the club's most promising goalkeepers.
Young stopper James Hillson was given a chance to impress Arteta as he took part in Wednesday's session.
As spotted in the club's 'Inside Training' video uploaded to the official website, at around the 2.15 minute mark he can be seen getting beaten by an effort from Lacazette.
Hillson wasn't the only Arsenal wonderkid involved in Wednesday's session at London Colney.
Zech Medley - named on the bench against Brighton - was present alongside Trae Coyle, Zak Swanson and Matt Smith.
Barring an injury crisis, it's unlikely that Hillson will make his first-team bow for Arsenal between and the end of the season as Matt Macey is to provide cover for Emiliano Martinez.
And the good news for the Gunners is that Leno's injury is not as serious as first feared.
"Sustained moderate ligament sprain during Brighton & Hove (a) on Saturday. Aiming to return to full training in four to six weeks," a statement reads.
