Mikel Arteta blown away by one Arsenal summer signing and it's not Gabriel Jesus

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been blown away by summer signing Matt Turner's personality.

The Gunners completed a deal for the American international back in the January transfer window, as football.london revealed at the time. However, he wasn't officially unveiled by the club until last month, making his debut during last week's 5-3 win over German outfit Nurnberg.

Now, manager Arteta has delivered a glowing verdict of the experienced goalkeeper, admitting that he has settled in extremely quickly with the north London club. Speaking about Turner to the club's official website, the Spaniard said: “I’m really happy with him.

“The way he has settled in, he’s an extraordinary character, a lot of personality and he’s great at what we want. Obviously, it was a big moment for him to come in an Arsenal shirt in the States and play in front of the crowd and he did well.”

The 28-year-old isn't the only first-team player to join Arsenal during the summer window. In fact, technical director Edu has been a very busy man, bringing in talented young du Fabio Vieira and Marquinhos as well as clinical centre-forward Gabriel Jesus.

Jesus has netted three goals in his first two pre-season appearances for the club, scoring a brace against Nurnberg before breaking the deadlock with a clever finish during Sunday morning's 2-0 victory against Everton in Baltimore. And Arteta has also made it no secret of his admiration for the former Manchester City forward.

"He [Gabriel] creates chaos, he creates uncertainty and he's always on your shoulder," Arteta said in his post-match press conference after the win against the Toffees. "He’s always there to nick the ball off you, he’s always in front of the goal.

"He’s a real threat and this is what we need. And then he’s the one. The moment we give the ball away he is straight away active and putting pressure and getting his team behind him. He has a lot of leadership skills, I can see straight away what he’s doing with the boys and he’s the type of guy that we want."
