Mikel Arteta asks Edu to use Hector Bellerin to secure surprise Arsenal swap deal

Mikel Arteta would prefer to complete a swap deal rather than receive a transfer fee for the services of Hector Bellerin, it has been claimed.

The 25-year-old full-back is reportedly ready to leave the club at the end of the season, with Paris Saint-Germain ready to reignite their interest when the transfer window reopens.

Ligue 1 giants PSG were keen on a deal last year but the Gunners successfully fended off the interest but are now unlikely to stand in Bellerin's way if he pushes for an exit.

A departure would be significant though, as it would see Arsenal lose a homegrown player within their squad, but it appears Arteta views the departure as an opportunity.

ARSENAL BOSS MIKEL ARTETA RUES EARLY WINNER FOR MAN CITY

It is now suggested that the Arsenal boss is keen on landing a player in exchange for Bellerin and, with PSG the leading suitors, Julian Draxler's name has emerged once again.

“It is our information that Bellerin and his agent have told the club he wants to leave this summer. Arteta has decided we must make the best of the opportunity,” Duncan Castles told the Transfer Window Podcast.

“The most likely suitors for Bellerin are PSG. And in that being the case, Arteta has told Edu that given the situation it is more viable to trade players, he has asked Edu to discuss the possibility of a swap deal for Julian Draxler.”

Draxler has regularly been linked with a move to the Premier League during his career, with Arsenal continuously touted as suitors for the Germany international.

The 27-year-old has seen opportunities at PSG restricted, starting just one Ligue 1 match since mid-December, though he did register an assist off the bench in last week's Champions League victory against Barcelona.

Utilised in central midfield and on both flanks as a winger, Draxler's versatility may appeal to Arsenal who are looking to further their squad ahead of Arteta's second full season in charge.
