Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is hoping to take training tomorrow and be in the dugout for Thursday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool.
Arteta tested positive for Covid-19 last week and, per Government guidelines, has been isolating at home since then.
The Spaniard was unable to be at Emirates Stadium for Saturday’s defeat to Manchester City and was forced to watch the game at home via a special feed.
Arteta, however, is hoping he could return to the dugout on Thursday when Arsenal host Liverpool in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
His isolation is due to end later today and he is planning to take training tomorrow.
Arteta was in contact with his coaching staff during Saturday’s game against City, but his return to the touchline would be a welcome boost for Arsenal.
The club are targeting success in the Carabao Cup as the competition represents one of their best chances of silverware this season.
Liverpool are unlikely to have manager Jurgen Klopp present for the game as he too tested positive for Covid-19 last week.
The German was duly forced to miss Sunday’s draw at Chelsea and is not expected to be out of isolation in time. In his absence, assistant coach Pep Lijnders is due to take charge of the team once more.
Goalkeeper Alisson Becker, forward Roberto Firmino and centre-back Joel Matip are doubts for the game against Arsenal after also testing positive for coronavirus.
