Mikel Arteta trials new Arsenal backline in training - but it won't be seen in Europa League

Arsenal fans were given a quick glimpse at their future after the club released training footage which saw the quartet of Kieran Tierney, Gabriel, William Saliba and Hector Bellerin line up together as a back four.

After five games in the Premier League, Arsenal have the second-best defensive record with six goals conceded.

Summer signing Gabriel has made an instant impression for the Gunners and adapted to physical demands of English football.

But Saliba is yet to play for Arsenal after his arrival in the summer due to off the field.

That has left fans speculating about when he may make his first appearance for the club.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is prepared to be patient with Saliba and work with him in training.

And in footage posted by the club on Wednesday, Saliba is seen defending alongside Gabriel, Bellerin and Tierney in a youthful back four.

However, it won't be used in Thursday night's clash with Rapid Vienna, as Saliba was not included in Arsenal's squad for the Europa League - meaning fans won't see him in Austria.

Meanwhile, Granit Xhaka has hailed the qualities of recent transfer window signing Thomas Partey.

Partey came off the bench in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Manchester City but could make his debut on Thursday against Rapid.

And Xhaka believes the Ghana international will boost the mentality at the club.

"He will be the guy who is important for me and as well for the team. Everyone in the club can be happy because he has great quality," Xhaka told Arsenal.com.

"He will bring a good mentality, a good balance in our game because this is what we need a bit more: the mentality to win.

"He played at Atletico Madrid, a different type of football, and he will bring a lot of good quality and mentality."
