Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal top four theory that has caused excitement among Gunners fans

Arsenal fans have noticed a very encouraging statistic following Saturday's win over West Ham.

The Gunners defeated the Hammers 2-1 thanks to Eddie Nketiah's late winner after Michail Antonio cancelled out Alexandre Lacazette's opener.

That win takes Arsenal to six points from six, and it also helps Mikel Arteta improve his points ratio as the club's manager.

Fans on Twitter have now pointed out that Arteta's record as Gunners boss is 19 wins, six draws and six defeats from 31 games.

That's an average points return of 2.03 - and a win percentage of 61.29 - and that is very much a top-four record.

Chelsea, who finished four last season, managed an average points return of 1.73 per outing, while Tottenham the season before averaged 1.86 points per game.

That's cause for excitement for Arsenal fans as their side target a return to the Champions League this season.

The Gunners finished eighth last season, qualifying for the Europa League after winning the FA Cup.

They are already off to a flyer this season, sitting on maximum points ahead of their clash with reigning champions Liverpool a week on Monday.
