Mikel Arteta and Edu line up ideal Arsenal repeat with preparations under way for huge year

Arsenal will face German outfit Nurnberg in a pre-season friendly for the second summer running, football.london understands.

The Gunners put together their best season under Mikel Arteta this year with a second-placed finish in the Premier League. For large parts of the campaign, they seemed destined to win the league title over Manchester City, but it wasn't meant to be.

Preparation is already underway for next year, starting with a friendly against the Bundesliga 2 side at the start of pre-season. The fixture will be the fourth confirmed as part of Arsenal's pre-season. Arteta's side will face a MLS All-Stars XI on Thursday July 20 before taking on Manchester United (July 22) and Barcelona (July 26) - all of which will be in the United States.

The meeting with Nurnberg will be the second meeting between the two sides in consecutive years after the north Londoners ran out 5-3 winners last July. Gabriel Jesus scored twice on his non-competitive debut for the Gunners, with own goals from Christopher Schindler and Tim Handwerker completing the turnaround.

This year, Arteta's side will travel to Germany to face Dieter Hecking's outfit as part of their pre-season training camp at Adidas HQ.

No date is announced yet for the clash, and information on how to buy tickets will be released in due course.
