Mikel Arteta and Edu are in full agreement regarding Arsenal's main priority ahead of the January transfer window.
The Gunners spent big in the summer, bringing in Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhaes for considerable fees from Atletico Madrid and Lille respectively.
Meanwhile, Willian arrived on a free transfer from London rivals Chelsea, Dani Ceballos returned for another season-long spell and Alex Runarsson was signed as a replacement for Emiliano Martinez who joined Aston Villa.
However, Edu, the club's technical director, has now admitted that Arsenal's squad is still short in one key department.
At the Arsenal fans' forum on Tuesday evening, Edu answered questions from supporters, with one focusing on the club's plans for the upcoming window.
"It’s quite clear what we need," Edu said. "We need a player with creativity in the middle, we don’t have that in the squad right now."
Arsenal's need for a creative midfielder won't come as a surprise to many.
In fact, Arteta has already stated that it's an area of his squad that he wants to address
"Look at the players that we had in the past at this club in those positions," Arteta told Sky Sports back in July. "You go back to (Santi) Cazorla, to (Tomas) Rosicky, to (Andrey) Arshavin when he played there, to (Aaron) Ramsey when he played there, to (Henrikh) Mkhitaryan when he came in.
"Even Jack Wilshere used to play in those pockets all the time.
"That is a lot of players who are now not here. We have to renew that cycle, because if not, those kind of players won't be there for us anymore.
"They are a big part of what any squad needs."
Many will point to the fact that Arteta didn't include Mesut Ozil in his Premier League squad as a reason for his side's creative problems this season.
But the Gunners were linked with moves for Houssem Aouar and Philippe Coutinho in the summer window and have been tipped to make moves for Emi Buendia, Christian Eriksen, and Dominik Szoboszlai in January.
With that said, reports in Germany claim the Hungarian international is close to agreeing a deal to join RB Leipzig next month, meaning it could be back to the drawing board for Arsenal to solve Arteta's biggest problem.
