Mikel Arteta and Edu have already been handed a boost to complete £8m Arsenal transfer

Arsenal's summer transfer missions include signing a brand new pair of full-backs.

One appears to be close to completion with reports suggesting that Benfica's Nuno Tavares is likely to join in a deal worth £8.5million to provide cover and competition for Kieran Tierney at left-back.

And on the opposite flank, the likes of Max Aarons, Zeki Celik, Tariq Lamptey and Tyler Adams have all been tipped to replace Hector Bellerin who is likely to be moving on amid interest from teams in Spain and Italy.

But as revealed by The Athletic, Arsenal are keeping tabs on Sassuolo's Mert Muldur who can operate across the back four as well as in a defensive midfield role.

Currently valued at £8m on transfermarkt, the 22-year-old could be the perfect signing for the Gunners.

Although they will have to act fast, as whilst Muldur's agent Max Hagmayr says the defender is ready for the next step in his career, there is interest from fellow Serie A side Napoli.

"In the past, I talked about him with Napoli because Mert is a very promising full-back, still young and who played well against Switzerland as a left-back," Hagmayr told CalcioNapoli. "We will see what happens in the summer.

"Muldur would like to take the next step in his career.

"It’s hard to say now but I can say that all players would be happy to play for Napoli. Right now, he has a contract with Sassuolo until 2024 (but) Mert feels ready for the next step.

"We should talk about it with Sassuolo."

With that said, Hagmayr has also revealed why his client has not yet made the move from Sassuolo amid links with various clubs from Italy and England.

"There are always talks with top clubs in Italy and England," he added. "However, it always failed because of the transfer fee.

"He feels very comfortable here. There's been a very good defensive development for him. Nowhere else can you improve defensively and tactically as you do in Italy."

So it seems that if Arsenal want to sign Muldur, it's up to Mikel Arteta and Edu to present Sassuolo with an offer that they can't refuse.
