Mikel Arteta and Edu eye £17m defender transfer amid Arsenal's Ben White interest

Arsenal have been one of the busier sides in the summer transfer window so far with Mikel Arteta keen to bolster his options ahead of next season.

The Gunners are set for a big squad overhaul in order to improve on what was a disappointing 2020/21 campaign.

football.london understands that the club are closing in on the signing of Ben White from Brighton, with Arteta desperate to improve on the defence.

The Arsenal boss currently has Pablo Mari, Calum Chambers, Rob Holding, Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba as his centre-back options as his side start their pre-season preparations.

Also, the latter of the five, Saliba, is assessing his options ahead of 2021/22 with White expected to come in.

So if Saliba does leave this summer, Arteta will be back down to five centre-back options - if White does indeed complete his move - and reports from France suggest that a move for a Paris Saint-Germain defender could be on the cards.

According to Foot Mercato, the arrival of Sergio Ramos at the Parc des Princes leaves Thilo Kehrer's future at the French club uncertain.

The report claims that the German defender wants to stay in Paris, but the situation could easily change. It is also stated that a loan move for Kehrer could be something that is considered.

Arsenal 'looked into his case', it is stated, with the 24-year-old having just under two years remaining on his deal in the capital of France.

Kehrer signed for PSG in 2018 from Schalke for around £33.3million, but has been somewhat of a bit-part player. He is now valued at up to €20m (£17m), according to the CIES Football Observatory.

The German centre-back played 33 times for PSG in all competitions last season and his game time could be restricted even more with Ramos' arrival.

Mauricio Pochettino currently has Ramos, Kehrer, Abdou Diallo, Presnel Kimpembe, Timothee Pembele and Marquinhos as his centre-back options, and could look to offload at least one over the next few months.
