Mikel Arteta allays Arsenal fans' major fear as Bukayo Saka injury update issued after Brighton

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Bukayo Saka's injury against Brighton was nothing serious.

Saka has quickly established himself as one of the Gunners' most important players since breaking into the first team two years ago.

The skilful winger has already notched 13 goals and 22 assists in an Arsenal shirt, an impressive feat considering he has played a large portion of those games as a wingback.

His consistent performances last season even earned him the club's Player of the Year award before he was included in Gareth Southgate's England squad for Euro 2020, delivering notable displays against the likes of Germany and the Czech Republic as the Three Lions made it to the final before tasting defeat against Italy.

The 20-year-old then netted his first goal in a North London Derby, providing a goal and an assist as Mikel Arteta's side defeated local rivals Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 last weekend.

However, Saka, like many of his teammates, struggled to impose himself on the game at the Amex Stadium on Saturday evening as the Gunners drew 0-0 with Graham Potter's Brighton.

The Hale End graduate was substituted in the dying embers of the game, hobbling off for Ainsley Maitland-Niles as Arsenal fans feared the worst.

A number of supporters took to social media to voice their fears, with some fans even claiming that the Gunners' season was over.

@Arsenes_Eyes : "Saka has played way too much football in the last year. Massively let down by club and national coaches. An injury we all saw coming. #Arsenal."

@CO_Assna : "Saka injury yeah our season’s over you man be safe."

@AFCdenniz : "Saka injured, season over."

@BearlyYours : "Please let that injury for Saka be nothing. Pleaseeee."

Now, Arteta has confirmed that his star player did pick up a knock, although, it was nothing too serious.

Asked about Saka’s injury, the Spaniard replied: "He’s fine. He got a knock but he should be fine."

The talented youngster has little time to rest over the ensuing international break as he prepares to take on Hungary and Andorra in England's World Cup qualifiers over the next fortnight.

Southgate's side currently sit top of Group I ahead of Albania in second place.
