Mikel Arteta admits Arsenal leave Newcastle with "not good news" after injury blow

Mikel Arteta has admitted that Arsenal have some bad news on the injury front after another blow to the squad.

It comes after a 2-0 win against Newcastle, which would have surely boosted morale for a side lacking confidence.

Mohamed Elneny scored the opener in the first five minutes before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made sure of the result.

It would have no doubt left Arteta with a smile on his face to see his main man get back on the scoresheet.

Aubameyang has struggled for fitness in recent weeks after contracting malaria.

But the Gabon international hitting form just before Arsenal's biggest game of the season will be good news for the Gunners.

However, there is also bad news - after Arteta admitted that his side have suffered another injury blow.

On an almost perfect day, that all unravelled when David Luiz was forced off in the second-half.

It will be a crushing blow for the Brazilian, who was making his return from injury after six weeks out.

When asked about the former Chelsea defender, Arteta said: “We don’t know.

"He felt something in his hamstring, so it’s not good news.

“He’s put such a shift to be back for the team for the last few weeks after the knee surgery and it’s a real shame.

“Apart from David’s injury, I think that’s all we wanted [this afternoon].

"We wanted to keep the team fresh, the players with the right attitude to play this game and be able to focus just on today and I think we had a really strong performance.

“From the beginning, we dominated the game and we got the three points that we needed and it helped for Thursday as well.”
