Obi Mikel and Downing leave Boro

John Obi Mikel and Stewart Downing will be released by Middlesbrough after they were not offered new deals.

Dimi Konstantopoulos and Andy Lonergan will also leave the Riverside.

There is believed to be interest in Mikel from the Premier League after he impressed during his six months on Teesside.

Loanees Mo Besic (Everton), Rajiv van La Parra (Huddersfield) and Jordan Hugill (West Ham) also return to their parent clubs.

West Brom want boss in place for pre-season

West Brom are in no rush to install a new manager and may wait until the end of June.

The Baggies are yet to name Darren Moore's full-time replacement almost three months after he was dismissed.

Club sources claim the Midlands side are simply working through a list of candidates, the BBC reports .

Aston Villa chief calls for calm

Aston Villa chief executive Christian Purslow has called for calm following the team's promotion back to the Premier League.

The club has been linked with a number of new signings, but Purslow has called for a pragmatic approach.

"This is when poorly run businesses and clubs make mistakes," he told BBC WM .

"This is the time to pause, apply a cold towel and contemplate carefully exactly what we need to do," he added.
