Mike Zimmer ranks surprisingly low in job-security rankings

Dan Hanzus over at NFL.com ranked coaches from most secure to least secure regarding their jobs.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer, despite the respect he has in the organization, ranked surprisingly low on the list.

Hanzus had Zimmer ranked 26th on the list and in the “seat perhaps warmer than preferred” section.

Here’s what Hanzus wrote about Zimmer:

Certain teams don’t seem to wear the crown of offseason Super Bowl favorite well. With Minnesota coming off the Minneapolis Miracle and an appearance in the NFL’s version of the Final Four in 2017, many believed 2018 would be the year the Vikings pulled an Eagles and ended a 50-plus year Super Bowl drought. Replacing Case Keenum with Kirk Cousins at quarterback only elevated expectations — but Minnesota fell weirdly flat last season en route to a deeply disappointing 8-7-1 finish. Entering his sixth season, Zimmer has been a very strong hire overall for the Vikings. You just wonder how patient ownership will remain if the Vikings follow “Waterworld” with “Battlefield Earth.”

Maybe, though, the ranking isn’t that far off. If the Vikings fail to make the playoffs in 2019, the organization will have to take a close look at how it’s operating across the board.

In his five seasons with the Vikings, Zimmer has amassed a 47-32-1 record, including two trips to the playoffs. The team made the NFC Championship game in 2017.
