Mike Zimmer on Kyle Rudolph situation: ‘Sometimes business gets in the way’

The Kyle Rudolph saga continues in Minnesota.

After the Vikings drafted Irv Smith Jr. in the second round and contract discussions broke down between Rudolph and the Vikings, Rudolph’s status is uncertain in Minnesota.

Rudolph, 29, is due more than $7 million in the last year of his deal in 2019, which needs to be restructured if Rudolph wants to remain a Viking.

The Vikings were together on Monday at Mike Zimmer’s annual charity golf tournament. And Zimmer addressed the situation briefly with reporters.

“I’ve had conversations with Kyle and quite honestly, I really love all my players,” Zimmer said via ESPN’s Courtney Cronin. “We expect Kyle to be here. Sometimes business gets in the way but we’re not here to talk about that  today.”

It’s understandable that Zimmer didn’t want to talk about Rudolph’s contract situation during his charity golf tournament. But this is something that the team would likely to have addressed sooner rather than later.
