Mike Zimmer explains the value of veteran leadership

Leadership in life is an important thing.

The same goes for sports, and Vikings coach Mike Zimmer is aware of it. Zimmer and the Vikings have had a good pipeline of veterans to mentor young players, and that’s become a trickle-down process.

“When Anthony Harris came in here, a guy like him being around Harrison Smith – I think all those things help develop players, as well,” Zimmer said via Vikings.com. “We have a lot of really good people on our football team that help these young guys. When Brian Robison helped Everson Griffen, and then on top of it, you bring a guy like [defensive line coach] Andre Patterson in who helps coach Brian Robison to being a better player … [and then Robison could] help Everson, he can help Danielle Hunter and those guys.”

It’s a cool thing to see for fans, especially. For me growing up, it was always fun to see Cris Carter’s relationship with Randy Moss.

I’ll be interested to see if that’s something someone like Kyle Rudolph can do with rookie tight end Irv Smith Jr.
