THE TRIBE HAS SPOKEN: mastermind of The White Lotus and School of Rock‘s Mr Schneebly, Mike White, will be returning to Survivor for its 50th season.
On Wednesday (local time), long-time Survivor host and executive producer Jeff Probst confirmed the return of White to the glorious reality TV game show, revealing that The White Lotus creator had always wanted to “play again” after he almost won the show’s 37th season.
“Mike, after he finished playing, said, ‘I want to play again’,” Probst said on CBS Mornings.
“When White Lotus hit I thought, ‘Well, he’ll never play again’. But he kept texting and saying, ‘Look, I’m serious. If you ever do anything where you have returning players, I want to play again.’
“This is the guy that writes and directs White Lotus, which studies human behaviour in the most fascinating way. He gets Survivor.”
For those who need a quick refresher, White appeared in the David vs. Goliath season of Survivor, which aired back in 2018.
Although he made it all the way to the end, The White Lotus creator clocked the title of runner-up alongside Angelina Keeley, with Nick Wilson winning the whole shebang.
Following the news, both Survivor and The White Lotus fans have expressed their excitement for the writer’s return to the game, with many joking that he will win the upcoming season by promising his fellow castaways a cameo on the beloved TV series.
And honestly… if he used that method to stay in the game as a strategy, I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED.
The White Lotus is rife with Survivor easter eggs and cameos, and White himself has admitted that elements of his experience on the survival show have been woven into the series.
“Survivor is the only show I really devotedly watch,” White admitted to The New Yorker in 2021.
“I still feel like, even on the most contrived reality show, the people are human and they’re more interesting than some of the most well-scripted drama.
“I aspire to do what reality television already does. To create characters that are surprising and dimensional and do weird shit and capture your attention.”
With The White Lotus season four confirmed, I reckon this is the best way for White to gather some great material for a bonkers season that’ll top this year’s incest fest.
Survivor 50 is set to start filming in Fiji in the coming months and is expected to air on 9Go! in 2026.
