Mike Vrabel says Coach of the Year talk is ‘interesting’ but ‘not important’

After the Tennessee Titans finished the 2021 campaign with 12 wins, an AFC South title and the No. 1 seed in the conference, head coach Mike Vrabel has rightly come up in conversations about the NFL Coach of the Year award.

Not only did the Titans accomplish all that, they did so during a season in which the team saw an insane amount of injuries, leading to their fielding a record 91 players throughout.

When asked on Monday about the possibility of him being NFL Coach of the Year, Vrabel said the talk was “interesting” but “not important” (H/T Titans247).

“The same thoughts I had last night. That may be interesting, but it is not important,” Vrabel said. “We have to focus on things that are important. That is trying to play better and prepare, just because any mistakes are magnified in the playoffs against good teams. Just the magnitude. There is not going to be an opportunity to have the game that we had against Pittsburgh, where we do a lot of good things but you turn the football over. If you lose a game like that, your season is over”

Following Sunday’s game, we wrote that Vrabel should be NFL Coach of the Year, and believe it isn’t really close. Sure, other coaches have done great jobs around the NFL, but Vrabel was simply a step above the rest.
