Mike Tyson statue mocked for looking more like rival Evander Holyfield

Mike Tyson's new statue has been mocked for looking "nothing like him", with some fans even saying it bears a closer resemblance to Evander Holyfield.

Tyson and Holyfield shared a heated rivalry during their boxing careers, and despite patching things up later in life, it will likely be an unflattering comparison to 'Iron Mike'.

The statue was unveiled over the weekend outside Mulberry's Pizza at the Resorts World in Las Vegas, which is owned by Tyson's childhood friend Richie Palmer.

The pizza chain started in the 90s in New York, where Tyson is from, before moving to California, and now boasts that it is the "world's most famous pizzeria"

And Tyson was impressed with the statue, saying: "Well, you know, I'm from New York and Mulberry Pizzeria's legendary there and I lived in Beverly Hills and it was legendary there.

"I lived around the corner from it. I was here in Vegas and Richie Palmer honoured me with the statue and I'm really humbled and thank you, Richie.

"I knew Richie ever since my teenage years in New York City and we always been close and I'm a little overwhelmed. I'm pretty humbled right now."

However, fans have mocked the statue for looking nothing like the boxing star, with one noting that it "looks more like Holyfield".

Another added "nothing like Tyson but still doesn’t take away that he’s one of the greatest boxers in history", while one said it bared more of a resemblance to The Simpsons ' Tyson parody character Drederick Tatum.

The statue was also likened to Frank Bruno and Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Terry Crews, while one fan joked: "Imagine doing that and getting tattoo completely wrong lol".

Tyson is currently preparing for a return to the ring next year, after stepping back between the ropes in 2020 for an exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr.

The boxing legend was rumoured to fight Logan Paul, although that has since been rubbished by the YouTube star's coach Milton Lacroix.

Veteran trainer Lacroix reportedly told former Team GB Olympic medalist Tony Jeffries that the fight talk is "full of s***".

"Spoke to Milton earlier, Logan Pauls trainer," Jeffries said in a tweet this morning.

"The fight with Mike Tyson is full of s***, all rumours and not happening."

The fight was initially reported reported by Keem, better known by his social media alias Keemstar, who hosts popular news show DramaAlert.

"Logan Paul vs Mike Tyson, Feb 2022, sources tell DramaAlert," he tweeted.

Tyson has confirmed that he will be fighting next year, although no opponent has been confirmed.

"I am going to have a return fight in February and we are pretty skeptical about the opponent, but it will be a really stimulating opponent," he told The Sun.

His last bout with Jones was one of the highest selling pay-per-views in history, and his return will likely draw massive numbers with the right opponent.
