Mike Tyson's decision to return to the ring has been described as "temporary insanity" by heavyweight legend George Foreman.,
Fifty-four-year-old Tyson makes his comeback this weekend in an eight-round exhibition bout with 51-year-old Roy Jones Jr.
There will be no winner declared and no knockouts permitted despite the fight being sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission.
And Foreman cannot understand why Tyson is returning 15 years after his final professional fight.
"It's temporary insanity," he told Yahoo Sports. "I liken it to a guy who wants to get on a boat and go out to sea. It seems like so much fun, so peaceful, so he wants to get out there and do it.
"Then he gets out there and the big waves start coming and the sea is rough and it’s raining and the wind is blowing and he asks himself, 'Lord, why did I ever do this?'
"It's happened to so many of us. And you realise you should have stayed home on the dry land where everything is nice and safe.
"The thing that is hard when you start to think of coming back, you remember what you could do back in the day.
"But you have to reclaim that hardness you once had and the timing. That’s what you lose after so many years away and it’s so hard to get back."
Foreman himself fought until he was 47 with his final bout coming in 1997 when he dropped a majority decision to Shannon Briggs.
Foreman, now 71, was previously a two-time heavyweight world champion and won 76 of his 81 professional bouts.
He did admit that Tyson will benefit from the fight being an exhibition.
"He'’s coming back in an exhibition with hardly any consequences," Foreman added. "I wish I could have had the privilege of doing it that way.
"I came back and they were real fights that meant something. I was off for 10 years and then I came back and said, 'I'm back to become the heavyweight champ of the world again.' He’s back in an exhibition and he’s not going to have it as difficult."
