Mike Tyson confirms plans for next boxing match in 2021 after Roy Jones Jr bout

Mike Tyson has confirmed he will be stepping back through the ropes again in 2021 for another boxing match following the success of his bout against Roy Jones Jr.

The former undisputed world heavyweight champion fought Jones Jr in an eight-round exhibition in Los Angeles in November.

While the bout was ruled a draw, many feel Tyson deserved the victory, and the experience has given him the confidence to line up another opponent.

Asked during an Instagram Live with Patrick Mouratoglou whether he intends to dance under the lights again this year, Tyson replied: "Yeah, absolutely. It’ll be better this time."

Tyson, 54, had not fought professionally in 14 years by the time he faced off with Jones Jr, who had only retired two years previously.

He added: "It was interesting. I felt really good, I felt confident. I felt that I could do it again."

There was plenty of demand for the showdown, too, with the pay-per-view fight attracting more than £1.6million viewers.

Evander Holyfield has already expressed an interest in renewing his long-term rivalry with the man who once bit a chunk of his ear off.

“We started Legends Only League and it’s really interesting," Tyson continued.

“Once I announced that I was going to do my exhibition, everybody, all these other athletes all wanted to get involved in some way.

“Our first show was a record breaker. Now everybody’s interested in being involved with our whole organisation."

Holyfield is desperate to be next in the queue to fight Tyson, demanding they get the clash sorted.

"This is the fight that must happen for both our legacies," Holyfield said in November.

"You said you were ready to fight me, so sign the contract and get in the ring, Tyson. The world is waiting and it's on you now. I'm ready."

He added: "My side tried to make the fight happen and we got nothing but excuses.

"Now I can see why he wanted a tune-up fight before thinking about fighting me.

"Roy Jones was a good local opponent for Mike but a fight with me would be a global event and the only fight that anyone wants to see is a fight between us.

"There is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't make it happen."
