Before Trout exited Sunday’s game early with calf tightness, he hit triumphant homers in Angels’ wins on both Friday and Saturday. Friday’s dinger came amidst an emotional, 6-RBI performance from Trout on a night the Angels honored late teammate Tyler Skaggs and pitched a no-hitter. Mariners starter Mike Leake left a fastball right down the middle and Trout smacked it into the stratosphere. Trout’s 4-for-9 performance in parts of three games since last Mike Trout Monday upped his season hitting line to .305/.455/.666, which is good. Trout said after Sunday’s game that he wasn’t worried about the calf issue, wanted to play through it, and that the Angels were just playing it safe. The team, understandably, tends to be cautious with Trout whenever he’s ailing or aching, and Trout is set for an MRI on Monday.
Through Sunday’s play, Trout leads the American League in homers, RBI, walks, on-base percentage, slugging, OPS, OPS+, WAR, times on base, extra-base hits, total bases, at-bats per home run, and Win Probability Added.
