Mike Trout 'just messing around' when he predicted better record for Browns than Bears

CHICAGO _ Mike Trout has no grudge against the Bears.

Trout, a seven-time All-Star outfielder for the Los Angeles Angels, said he was only joking last month when he told a radio reporter that the lowly Browns would have a better record than the Bears in 2018.

"I've got the Browns having a better record than the Bears," Trout told ESPN-AM 830's James Allen, a Chicago native who was talking up the Bears. The Browns were 0-16 last year.

"We were just messing around," Trout said last week in Anaheim, Calif. "We try to keep it loose. We all enjoy football."

Trout said he treasured the experience of watching the Eagles, his childhood football team, beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl last February.

"Seeing your hometown team win, the team you've been rooting for growing up, you try to put yourself in their shoes in what they're going through," said Trout, who has made only one career postseason appearance in 2014. "You definitely want to be out there as a baseball player."
